$20 Liberty Double Eagles in Mint State 61 are one of the best buys in today's gold market. More than 100 years old, these classic U.S. gold coins combine relative scarcity, a large gold content, and a historic design to make an excellent investment coin for bulk gold buyers.
Better than bullion
Minted from 1877 to 1907, these $20 Liberty gold coins were the crucial building blocks of expanding U.S. financial markets in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Only a tiny fraction of the original mintage survives today in MS61 yet they are remarkably affordable in today's market.
Out of an original mintage of more than 60 million, only 215,581 survivors are known in Mint State 61 condition (PCGS + NGC, 9/18/2017). This kind of scarcity can mean increased premiums during periods of high demand. Modern bullion coins are made in unlimited numbers each year and offer no potential for added premium because of scarcity.
Unlike most forms of gold bullion, they are exempt from broker reporting requirements. In our opinion, they're better than bullion for bulk gold buyers because they offer all the benefits of gold bullion plus extra benefits collector demand, financial privacy, and extra premium potential because of scarcity.
• Extremely low prices. Certified mint state coins for little more than raw AU specimens.
• Relative scarcity. Only 215,581 survivors certified in MS61. This relative scarcity can mean higher premiums during periods of peak demand.
• Better than bullion. All the benefits of gold bullion plus extra benefits collector demand, financial privacy, and extra premium potential because of scarcity.
