This piece is the ‘States over Stated’ variety. As is somewhat common with the issue, it is almost fully proof-like and shows nicely mirrored fields. The strike is truly exceptional--so strong, in fact, that the Eagle’s breast and leg feathers are the fullest ever seen on this issue, regardless of grade. It shows no contact marks worth mentioning, but there are some hairlines in the fields, thus resulting in the MS63 grade. We recently presented this coin for inspection to several very knowledgeable grading experts at the recent Central States Coin Show. We place this special coin at the very upper end of the MS63 designation and those experts who examined this coin concur. It is exceedingly nice!
