A Proof-strike only issue, this coin is a miracle of both rarity and preservation. No Mint State examples were struck at all, and merely 45 peices were minted in total. This particular example is one of three coins graded Proof 66 by PCGS and NGC combined (two by NGC, one by PCGS), with no coins grading higher. The techincal merit and eye-appeal of this coin are unsurpassed for the issue. Because of its incredible frosty devices in sharp contrast with its fully-reflective and mirrored fields, this superb specimen has been designated as a Cameo Proof by NGC. The obverse is stunning, fully-struck and radiant. Die polish lines are evident, which are to be expected on this date. The reverse is equally incredible. A slight degree of cloudiness in the field within the confines of the wreath on the reverse is evidence that this cherished coin probably resided in a velvet box for decades. Hopefully, our picture does it some small justice! This coin truly deserves the moniker - CLASSIC RARITY! |
