100 oz Engelhard silver bars are a foundational product for US silver investors. Produced in .999 fine pure silver from 1982 to 1987 by the Engelhard Corporation, a pioneering American refinery of the 20th century, they are only available today on the secondary market.

A Fortune 500 company founded in Newark, NJ in 1902, Engelhard became the world's largest refiner and fabricator of silver, gold, and platinum, and was credited with developing the first production catalytic converter. It was purchased for $5 billion by BASF, a German chemical manufacturer, in 2006.

Engelhard bars set the global standard in refining and production of precious metals. Investors and collectors continue to seek out these 100 oz Engelhard silver bars for their quality and history. Some of the earliest products can even command a premium for scarcity, something unheard of in contemporary silver bars.

Made by casting

Unlike most current-production silver bars, which are struck from ingots and polished to create perfectly uniform shapes and shiny surfaces, Engelhard bars were manufactured by casting, a venerable process dating back to ancient Rome and Egypt. Casting requires pouring molten silver into a mold, resulting in rustic-looking, textured surfaces that give character to each bar.

Every Engelhard 100 oz bar contains a full 100 ounces of .999 fine pure silver. All are stamped with the Engelhard name, weight, and purity. Most are also stamped with a serial number.

Please note that because of age and manufacturing process, some bars may have superficial scratches and toning, a natural coloration that comes from exposure to oxygen. But these characteristics in no way reduce the value of the bar.
